My name is Yelena and I have been dreaming of having a small mixed farm with a designated flower cutting garden ever since I was a child picking flowers out of my grandmother’s cutting garden in Brittany, France. My Minimaman and I would collect flowers from her garden using a traditional flat willow basket and then walk home through a narrow cobblestone street back to the house to arrange them together. I’m inspired by travel, the beauty of nature and the changing seasons.
In 2007 my husband and I purchased a run down 2 acre farm near the Kettle River in Grand Forks, British Columbia. Together with our three children we began the process of turning our place into a small working farm with flowers, berries, honey bees and a few chickens.
Today, we grow sustainable specialty cut flowers using organic and no till methods to build and regenerate the sandy soil on our micro flower farm. My goal is to improve this land and bring joy into peoples’ lives with beautiful seasonal flowers for everyday and special occasions using natural floral design.
